Ancona Jewelers is a family owned jewelry store in Addison, IL, established in 1983. The store’s mission is to provide customers with quality products and reliable service. We caught up with Manager Antonio Ancona to learn more about how they make customers’ visits memorable, his favorite trends, what he’s looking forward to at JCK Las Vegas & Luxury 2020 and more.
What is your background in the jewelry industry and how did you get your start?
This is my background. My father came to America in 1972, opened the store in 1983 and I started working in 1995.
How would you describe your store using only three words?
Elegant, clean, warm.
Can you give us a glimpse into your process when purchasing pieces to include in your store collection and your decision-making strategies?
We consistently review fast selling reports, and always stay up-to-date with the latest designs and fashion trends.
Are there any particular stones, hues, or styles you are partial to and prefer to carry more of in the store?
We are in love with Forevermark diamonds and are confident in selling them!
What are the trends you’ve noticed have been selling particularly well?
Yellow gold is definitely making a comeback and is selling especially well.
What were some of your favorite trends you saw at JCK or Luxury 2019?
At Luxury we saw a lot of designers going back into yellow gold, and creating simple layered looks you could wear every day.
What do you do to make customers’ visits memorable?
We do have a particular scent in our store, but what our clients seem to love most would be our espresso and biscotti that we serve them!
Do you do any special events? If so, what kind?
We host several events throughout the year. Our most popular is our bridal event towards the end of March, and our client appreciation day.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned from your business?
We’ve learned not to over pat. That’s a lesson you learn quickly.
What is one piece of advice you would give someone who is just starting out in the industry?
The most important piece of advice would be to fully understand your clients and establish a close relationship with all of them.
What types of pieces/collections stood out to you at this year’s show, and what types were you looking for when you got to the show?
Bigger chains, large hoops and jewelry with multi-color gemstones.
How has JCK helped your business?
It has really helped because it makes our buying pleasant and easy.
What are you most looking forward to for JCK & Luxury 2020?
We loving meeting with other store owners from across the country and working with new suppliers.
Did you do anything fun in Vegas off the show floor in 2019?
We loved checking out the amazing restaurants, and saw some cool shows.
